As outlined in the Real Estate Act, AREA appoints a total of six members to the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA):

When AREA is appointing members from the Boards/Associations, AREA encourages members to send applications directly to your Board/Association. AREA asks that applications include the following:
Following the window for receiving applications, the Boards/Associations will submit a list of nominees to AREA. AREA aims to have at least three potential nominees for each of the appointment categories.In years when AREA is appointing the members representing residential and commercial / industrial real estate respectively, AREA will receive the applications from interested members directly.Once the nominations have been submitted, AREA undertakes an interview process with the identified nominees to determine the successful appointees. RECA is then notified of those appointments approximately 8 weeks in advance of the beginning of the appointees' respective terms.
